GOALS

The goals of our Nursery School are directed toward the child’s development of self-confidence, independence and initiative. Children are encouraged to solve problems, to experiment with materials and to build healthy and social relationships. We want the children to have a good time and feel good about themselves.

OUR SCHOOL MOTTO IS “PLAY IS THE BUSINESS OF CHILDREN” AND WE BELIEVE CHILDREN LEARN THROUGH STRUCTURED PLAY.

REGULAR CLASS TIME: 9:00-11:45 begins the second day of school. On the first day of school each parent stays with his/her child for a one hour session. We feel this helps the child get acquainted with his/her new surroundings and his/her new teacher.

ARRIVAL TIME: Beginning at 8:50, the School doors open. Please park on Ryefield Road. Do not use the driveway for dropping off, picking up or turning around.

DISMISSAL TIME: BE PROMPT in picking up your child. We ask that you wait outside the classroom, as the dismissal area becomes very congested inside the room. The door to the BIG ROOM will be opened when the children are ready to be dismissed.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS: We do not have school when the Locust Valley Schools are closed due to the holidays or inclement weather.

LATE OPENINGS: We do not have school when Locust Valley Schools have delayed openings.

EXTENDED DAYS: On Tuesday ,Wednesday and/or Thursday children can extend their stay at school until 2:oopm. Children bring a lunch and enjoy an afternoon of fun. Sign up for extended day is on a weekly basis at a per day rate.

HEALTH RULES: Each child entering school must have a complete medical examination. Medical forms will be provided by the school.

Please do not send your child to school if he/she shows symptoms of illness.

Please advise the school if your child has had an upsetting experience outside of school so that we may better understand and deal with his behavior.

Children should come to school prepared for outside activities throughout the year. If your child is not well enough to join outside activities, he/she MUST BE KEPT HOME.

TUITION is paid in four quarterly payments:

First Payment ........September Orientation Meeting

Second Payment ...November 1

Third Payment ......January 2

Fourth Payment ....April 1

PROMPT PAYMENT IS EXPECTED AND APPRECIATED

MISC.: Each child should have a bag to carry all of his/her treasures home in at the end of the day. Please label carefully.

Each child needs to have a smock for painting at the easel and for art time. An old T-shirt or dress shirt is fine.

TOILET TRAINING – BATHROOM CARE: All children MUST be fully toilet trained before entering our school. Bathroom time is always supervised, but your child should be encouraged to perform all bathroom functions by himself/herself.

NO TOYS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL: We ask that you do not allow your child to bring toys from home to school. Usually the child does not want to share his/her treasure and the other children do not understand that and we end up with tears and frustration.

SNACKS: Each child brings his/her snacks from home. This is an excellent time to introduce good nutrition.

PARTICIPATION: A parent comes 10 times a year to be a helping parent in the classroom. If you cannot come on the day you are scheduled for, first try to switch your day with another parent and notify your child’s teacher. If you are unable to get a sub, please call your child’s teacher by 8:00 a.m.

CLOTHES WORN TO SCHOOL Please dress your child comfortably and according to the weather. We do not mind if your child wears good clothes to school, as long as you understand that we do art EVERY DAY and play outside EVERY DAY. We make every effort to care for your child’s, clothes, but pre-schoolers are not known for their neatness.

A complete change of clothes (pants, shirt, underwear and socks) in a shoe box with your child’s name on the outside is to be left at school for emergencies.

BIRTHDAYS AT SCHOOL:

It is important that every child have the opportunity to celebrate his/her birthday at school. We allow a special treat (cupcakes, brownies or birthday cake) and drink with birthday cups and napkins
YOU MAY NOT HAND OUT BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS AT SCHOOL. THIS CAUSES SAD FEELINGS FOR THOSE NOT INVITED.

For your child’s birthday you may donate a book in your child’s name to his/her class library.

CONFERENCES: We are available to confer with you about your child at any time during the school year. Please call to arrange for a conference as before class or at dismissal time does not provide the proper atmosphere.

INDIVIDUAL CONFERENCES: We will schedule individual conferences in April. Appointments will be made with your child’s teacher.
